Title: 총각네 야채가게 / Chonggakne Yachaegage
Genre: Melodrama, comedy, romance
Episodes: 24
Broadcast network: Channel A

Broadcast period: Dec-2011 to Mar-2012

This is one of those convoluted K-dramas that starts when the leads are young. Of course, they're poor and with one living in an orphanage while the other is left with an ailing grandmother to support him until she passes and then his life becomes 'even worse'.

Then, and after about 3 episodes, we are taken into the present and we watch throughout the rest of the episodes as these two poor, unfortunates struggle against all and unrealistic odds as they claw their way to the top.

It is based on a real-life scenario about a man who starts from humble beginnings to become the owner of a chain of vegetable (produce) stores throughout Korea.

I like it so far, even if the beginning dragged and was predictable enough for me not to have to watch . . . but, I did and still am. Up to episode 8 right now.

힐러 / Hilleo / Healer

20-episode KBS2 drama that stars Ji Chang Wook as Seo Jung Hoo, the Healer (28), Park Min Young as Chae Young Shin (27), and Yoo Ji Tae as Kim Moon Ho (37).

Kim Moon Ho is a successful reporter at a mainstream news station, but when he stumbles upon a 10-year-old mystery, he's forced to dive into a subversive underground news agency.

On his journey to break open the case, Moon Ho teams up with Chae Young Shin, a second-rate tabloid writer, and the Healer -- Seo Jung hoo, a mysterious internet-based journalist.

With his career and his safety on the line, Moon Ho struggles with issues of trust in a world full of unreliable sources.

I gotta admit, this one is great so far (I'm up to episode 9) and the more I see of Ji Chang wook, the more I want to see more :D

He's one of those rare gems in Korean dramaland who sneaks up on you, takes you by surprise, and steals you heart, mind, body, and soul without ever having to lift a finger in the process.

Dude is smokin', sexy, and talented!

Looking forward to finding out where all this goes, who ends up with whom, and how it ends.

HOTEL KING

A 32-episode Korean Drama that aired April through July, 2014 on MBC.

I'm through episode 11 as of today and liking it thus far.

Before starting this drama, I was into Roommate Season I and even before watching, always enjoyed seeing Lee Dong Wook perform.

After the few episodes of Roommate where they visited him on the set, and then when the nemesis (old man) visited the house, I decided it was time to look into Hotel King.

It's about a young man who is brutally manipulated by an old man who claims to know his father but is actually just a cruel bastard hell-bent on destroying something he believes is his by right.

The manipulator has convinced the male lead that his father is the owner of the only 7-star hotel in Seoul. Also, that the father always loved his daughter much more than his son -- to help explain why he supposedly threw away the boy after his wife died.

After the hotel owner's death, this daughter arrives to take over and behaves every bit as Paris Hilton clueless as any writer who likes stereotypical BS thrown in the mix would want the viewer to believe.

She's falling deeply in love with the young man who is currently the hotel's GM, and the GM is falling for her as well, but there's that sibling thing standing in his way (which she is entirely unaware of ATM).

I've already figured out who the real missing heir is, and I'm starting to believe that she isn't quite as stupid as the writers would like me to think, too.

He's being mentally tortured on his own now, discovering one horrid truth after the other -- and with her being the only source of solace and comfort he's ever known.

The subs at aznv.tv are horrible, but it is better than sitting through ads every few minutes over at dramafever.com.
