My #Highlander #RomanceNovel Goal for 2018

Well, I've decided to do something silly this year as far as Reading goes.

While browsing my extensive Kindle library the other night, it occurred to me that a few patterns emerged both Title and Content-wise.

A running theme that caught my eye had to do with HIGHLANDERS and SCOTTISH HIGHLANDER ROMANCES.

And no, I've neither read nor watched the Outlander series.

That doesn't mean a few of my Highlander-themed novels won't be about time-travel, but all will be about Love and/or Romance to some extent.

Because that's what I read and write about... Romance.

While 2017 started out promising for me, and I had worked hard on my 3rd Romance novel (of the Contemporary variety), about a 1/4 of the way through (say around April or May) I stopped writing and starting reading in earnest.

2018 has to be different, and I want to switch that around to read this year I will WRITE far more than I read... even if I do read every night before bed.

I just need to buckle down and start writing again, that's all.

Anyway,

What I've decided to do is to read

Every Single HIGHLANDER-Labeled Novel on my Kindle.

Before I list them here, I want to stress the fact that I probably won't read ALL of them but am going to make every attempt to do so.

Disclaimer:

If the novel is laden with type-o's, bad writing in general, too much first-person nonsense, or a whole ton of modern, feminist-minded claptrap, or not an ounce of historical accuracy, then no, I will PASS and move on to the next item on my list.

And the list proves extensive, I might add.

Tess And The Highlander (MacPherson Clan, #6) by May McGoldrick
Highland Soldiers 1: The Enemy by J.L. Jarvis
Rescued by a Highlander (Clan Grant, #1) by Keira Montclair

Highland Pursuits by Emmanuelle de Maupassant
Love of a Highlander (Arch Through Time #4) by Katy Baker

I can already tell you by looking over this list that a few of these won't make it past the first few pages stage.

I've read from a few of these authors already, and at least two don't impress me at all, so they may fall by the wayside right away.

One of them might turn out to be a rewritten by a chimp for the modern, butt-hurt reader via Amazon, so that one will also likely see an early dismissal.

And another seems to stand out as an oddity to my eye, so once I start reading that one, if it isn't what I expect it to be, then it, too, will go in the bye-bye pile.

As for there being BOXED-SETS included, I can't promise I'll read every one in the series unless the author is so talented and the first story is so engaging that I am encouraged to continue reading more.

I will, however, keep this list handy and update my progress as the year unfolds, checking off what I've finished (along with a posted review) and X'ing off what I didn't or couldn't finish and offering my reasons why (perhaps in a review as well).

Lastly, if ANY of these novels turn out to be Outlander or the 1990s Highlander knock-offs, I'll stop reading as well and let you know my reasons for doing so in an upcoming post.

There's nothing I hate worse than plagiarism, and any author who thinks it is okay to take an already-written story, change the character names, a key setting, and maybe one or two minor plot elements and call it THEIR story isn't worth my time, effort, or money.

Yes, I'll read all types of time-travel stories, vampire stories, and Scottish Highland Warrior stories, even Scottish Highland Warrior stories involving time travel.

What I won't stand for is a re-written work that practically mirrors another's original content.

IF YOU HAVE READ ANY OF THESE NOVELS, PLEASE LET ME KNOW IN THE COMMENTS SECTION BELOW!

I'm curious to know what you thought of the story, if you have any personal thoughts on the selection, and even a reason why you choose to read these types of Romance novels.

Thanks for reading and look forward to hearing more in the coming weeks (and months) about my progress, these types of stories, and anything else that crops up while I'm making my way through this extensive list.
