Four - What Would I Do if I Couldn't Be a Writer? #MFRWauthor #BlogChallenge

Welcome to Week Four of the MFRW Author Blog Challenge, 2018!

This week's challenge question is: What I Would Do if I Couldn't be a Writer

Easy... shoot myself.

JUST KIDDING!

If the question is geared toward those who are established Romance Authors making a decent income (enough to quit their 'other' job) then I don't qualify to respond.

Which means my answer would have to be based on reality MINUS my aspirations of becoming a viable author, so this just means I'd have to go with An Office Worker --  closing in on retirement.

I'm thinking if it hadn't been writing novels, it would have been photography since that is my close second passion and something I can't resist doing when the mood strikes or if something really cool, or pretty, or exciting, or interesting, or brightly colored is at hand.

I actually LOVE being inside a Michael's or a Hobby Lobby, so maybe my parallel universe me would be into jewelry making or flower arranging or painting.

I was REALLY into gardening after I got married.

So much so that I had learned a lot about the subject, sent in soil samples for analysis that I was actually able to read (all scientific and sh*t), and can still tell you what Zone you live in, which decides what plants will thrive there, along with their sun or shade preferences as well.

Like everything else, my flower choices had to be vibrant, jewel-toned, and prolific in order for me to be truly satisfied with whatever it was I planned to do with each of the raised beds I'd worked on that season.

I got such a kick out of it, and the back-breaking work never seemed to discourage me or slow me down.

But, I guess that is a hobby as well, which I tend to keep falling back on for this challenge.

I feel as if I may have gone astray this week...

It just isn't a topic I've given much thought, because all I've ever really known is that without a 'hobby' or a special interest, I can't imagine what my life would be like and don't want to dwell on it.

Sorry!

As much as I adored writing most of my life, it just never dawned on me to make a living at it (until recently) is all I'm trying to say.

As always, thanks so much for stopping by and reading my post!

  1. I have a black thumb, so gardening is out for me; I leave that to my hubby and daughter. I have recently discovered I really enjoy going through other people's stuff, while cleaning out old houses (LOL!) Wonder if there's any way to channel that into a career? I joked recently that I was 'for hire', and I think one of my friends took me seriously....but she's not called me yet; just asked me what I charge!

  2. crafts and photography seem to be two front runners for second-life choices. Although I'm sure we would all prefer to be best-selling authors.

  3. I always think I should take up gardening, but I don't. I'm not much of an outside person. Or get dirty person and most days I'd say I am kinda lazy and gardening takes effort to keep it up. LOL I have a few house plants that are still alive and thriving, that's about as far as I go.

  4. No worries, Raine, it's all hypothetical anyway. I'm like Molly -- black thumb. Love looking at other peoper's gardens though.

  5. I've also got the black thumb. I admire anyone who is good at gardening.

  6. I've gone on self-directed lighthouse tours around Michigan and surrounding states to photograph them. It was one of the most fun things I'd done in earlier years. I've been away from my love of photography too long. Your flower garden is spectacular. I didn't inherit my dad's green thumb. He could grow anything.

  7. If I had any talent in that direction at all, I think I’d paint for similar reasons. Since I can’t, my imagination is limited to writing.
